USS SEADRAGON (SSN584) REUNION
PEORIA, ILLINOIS
11-16 SEPTEMBER 2001

The 3rd Reunion since 1998 was held and enjoyed by all those attending. Due to the horrific events of September 11th some of our shipmates were unable to attend. Others were able to take alternate modes of transportation and make the reunion.

We met each morning for breakfast in the hospitality room to eat and swap sea stories. Although somewhat subdued the greeting of old buddies is as always a great deal of pleasure. Of course the swapping of sea stories went on late into the evening and got better with each telling. Fellow shipmates from the Sea Fox, the Sea Robin and the Odax joined us.

Friday we gathered, along with Sea Fox and Sea Robin for our Reunion Dinner and Business Meeting. The meeting was called to order by Ron Waldron. George Breault led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Frank Lister gave the opening prayer. After dinner Ron Waldron presided over the meeting as well as being the Master of Ceremonies. He brought greetings from Admiral George P. Steele. Also, unable to attend but sending greetings were Bob "Tiger Scheide, our Web Master and Secretary/Treasurer, Gordon Wentzell and Frenchy LeClair. He also gave an update on former CO's Norman Emerson and Jerry Jordan.

Ron read summary of events since the last reunion. We have gained about 400 new names, many of which we have been located. We presently have names of about 1200 who served on SSN584 and we have located 685 of them. Of those we have found, 48 are deceased.

Treasurer's Report was read. John Pendleton was our auditor. Motion was made and approved to accept the report.

Captain John Peters was our guest speaker. He gave us a brief history of the United States
Submarine Navy and spoke of the qualifications required to serve. Captain "Uncle Lew" Neeb, a former Commanding Officer of the Sea Fox spoke briefly on serving on Sea Fox.

Captain Richard "Doc" Morin read a poem entitled "Final Patrol" and spoke on the sadness of the events of the past week. Whitey Davidson reported on those on Eternal Patrol from the Sea Fox.

Nominations of Officers for 2002 and 2003 were made and accepted. Your new Officers of the Alumnae Association are Patrick Raffety, President, Dave Cornell, Vice President and Bob "Tiger" Scheide, Secretary/Treasurer. Bob will remain as Web Master and Ron Waldron will continue to maintain the Data Bank.

A vote was taken on the date and location of the next Seadragon Reunion. It was unanimous that we would convene in Reno, Nevada in conjunction with the USSVI Annual Convention in 2003. More information will be promulgated as it develops.

All business being conducted, we went on to hold the 50/50 drawing which Gunner Nelson won. Several door prizes were awarded to those in attendance.

A few people took advantage of the opportunity to speak to the gathering.

Frank Lister of the USS Sea Fox offered a closing prayer.

The meeting was adjourned and the swapping of sea stories resumed in the hospitality room.
